Kalamata Port Area
Central location in the port of Kalamata holds the Square of Customs Office where there is the building of Customs Office and Port Authority. It is known as Ntouana, aVenetian name, which was douana or Dogana and now is used to describe the building or the old beach of Kalamata .
The Customs office consists of a large complex of two-storey and one-storey buildings of eclecticist type (1910-1930) with classic elements in floors (the pilasters with architrave and cornice that frame the openings, the balconies with marble sculptures cornices, ornate railings, etc.).
Characteristic element of Customs Office is the blue color. Its construction began in 1901 and was completed in 1911. During this period construction of the port was completed and was destined to be one of the largest areas of development.
Today in the west of the square of Customs Office there is the building of Autonomous Raisin Organization. This is a two-story tile-roofed building of the early 20th century, influenced by French architecture. It consists of two blocks of different size but of the same morphology.
Behind the building of the Customs office and after the square, there is the Railway Park, the unique open-air museum in Greece.
