23 March Square
The square of 23 March in the old town of Kalamata took its name from the day of the liberation of the city by the Turks in 1821. In this square, there is also the chapel of the Holy Apostles, where, according to tradition, the Revolution was declared The first operation of the liberated Kalamata was carried out. In the center of square 23rd March dominates the Hero, which is the moment of the uprising, which was created by sculptor Christos Riganas.
The 23rd March Square is the epicenter of events for the liberation of the city. Every year there is a representation of the release and other events.
